Clare LaVerne Myers; age 87 of Shepherd passed away Saturday, August 23, 2025, at MyMichigan Health Medical Center in Alma surrounded by family. Clare was born February 22, 1938, the son of Donald G. and Katherine (Ebnit) Myers. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and enjoyed his trips to the casino. Clare also liked keeping a nice lawn and doing projects at the family hunting camp. He married Lois Plaxton July 13, 1963. The two of them enjoyed many years at their cottage on School Section Lake, their home on Houghton Lake, taking trips together, and spending several winters in Arizona. They eventually moved back to their hometown of Shepherd. Clare was a successful businessman that owned his own business: Farmers Gas & Oil (FARGO) and was able to retire at age 49. He was a longtime volunteer in the Shepherd community and particularly involved with the Shepherd Maple Syrup Festival. He especially loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Clare is survived by his wife Lois; 2 children Jill (Dennis) Lauer of Midland and Brent (Lisa) Myers of Shepherd; 4 grandchildren Derek Lauer of Novi, Laura (Kyle) Chasnis of Hemlock, Taylor (Tyler) Sackett of Mecosta, and Jordan Myers of Shepherd; 4 great grandchildren Madison and Bailey Sackett, Kase Myers, and Lucas Chasnis; and several nieces and nephews. Clare is preceded in death by both his parents; his son Brian Myers; and siblings Donald Lee Myers and Mary VanSickle. Services for Clare will be Thursday, August 28 at Berry Funeral Home in Shepherd at 11 A.M. with visitation from 10 A.M. until the time of service. There will also be visitation Wednesday, August 27 from 4 to 8 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made on behalf of Clare to the Shepherd Maple Syrup Festival. Memorial envelopes will be provided at Berry Funeral Home or memorials can be mailed to Berry Funeral Home (PO BOX 489, Shepherd, MI 48883) as well.
