Susan Alice Brooks; age 83 of Shepherd passed away on Tuesday, November 11, 2025 at The Laurels of Mt. Pleasant with loved ones by her side. Susan was born March 6, 1942 to Harold and Rene (Forreider) Maycock of Howell, MI. She attended Howell High School and graduated in 1960. Guided by a warm and friendly spirit, Susan made friends in most places. When Susan wasn’t enjoying porch time, collecting rocks she thought were interesting, or eating a large bowl of ice cream in the evenings (“I have to have my ice cream”), she spent much of her free time baking goodies in her kitchen. Her treats were shared with friends, family, neighbors, and those she came to love at the businesses she frequented in her community. Susan’s greatest joy of all was spending time with her family and beloved grandchildren whom she loved with all her heart. Susan enjoyed eight years doing clerical work for Westhaven Manor in Westland, MI before moving to Shepherd, where she found a fulfilling position as a crossing guard and would often reminisce about her “crossers.” Susan was an active and dedicated member of the United Methodist Church for many years. Susan married her love, Roy H. Brooks, on August 12, 1972.

Susan is survived by her cherished sons, Mark (June Murray) Dickins of Shepherd and Bob (Shari) Dickins of Eaton Rapids and her three adored grandchildren, Paige (Kyler Lada), Ashley, and Andrew Dickins. Susan was preceded in death by her husband, Roy H. Brooks, her parents, Harold and Rene Maycock, and her sister, Sarah Coselman. Cremation has taken place and there will be a memorial service held on Saturday, November 22 at 11:00 AM at Shepherd United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until time of service. Arrangements have been entrusted to Berry Funeral Home of Shepherd. During her life, Susan asked that those who attend her memorial service not wear the color black. Honor her by wearing light colors or any shade of her favorite color, red. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Shepherd United Methodist Church.
