Arden chaffin

Arden James Chaffin passed away peacefully June 15th 2026.  He was at his home with family. A memorial gathering to celebrate his life and legacy will be held later this summer, followed by a private internment at Oak Grove Cemetery in St. Louis.

Arden was born on February 6, 1940, in Alma, Michigan, to Justin and Ada (Fraker) Chaffin. He grew up in Pompeii, Michigan, and graduated from Ithaca High School with the Class of 1958. Following graduation, he proudly served his country in the United States Army.

On September 16, 1961, Arden married the love of his life, Marjorie Galloway. Together, they shared a beautiful journey and raised three children: Barry, Tim, and Annette.

Throughout his life, Arden’s adventures and career took him across the country, with him residing in California, Indiana, New York, Michigan, Florida, and Kentucky. A man of diverse talents and passions, he wore many hats—raising beagles, racing horses, and working as a financial advisor. He also owned and operated four Radio Shack stores, working side by side with his wife and children in the family businesses.

Arden was best known for his great sense of humor, his quick wit, and a contagious laugh that could light up any room. He deeply loved his family and especially cherished the time spent creating lasting memories with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Arden was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marjorie, and his parents.

He is survived by his devoted children: Barry (Janet) Chaffin of Monte Sereno, California; Tim (Nikki) Chaffin of Sand Lake, Michigan; and Annette Pierce of St. Louis, Michigan. He is also cherished and remembered by his eight grandchildren: Wesley Chaffin, Miles Chaffin, Justin Chaffin, Trevor Chaffin, Brianna (Blake) Freed, Morgan Chaffin, Mary (Brady) Brecht, and Logan (Zoey) Pierce; his four great-grandchildren: Ensley and Shepherd Brecht, and Braxton and Briar Freed; and his sister, Ardyce Robotham of Hastings, Michigan.

In honor of Arden’s life, memorial contributions may be made to the Gratiot Commission on Aging.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Berry Funeral Home of Shepherd.
