Dennis Judson Degase, age 69, of Shepherd, passed away on June 3, 2026.
Denny was born on August 9, 1956, in Mount Pleasant, Michigan, the son of Elza “Bill” and Gayla (Frye) Degase.
A hardworking man throughout his life, Denny spent much of his career working in construction and the oil fields. He was known for his strong work ethic and his willingness to tackle any job that needed to be done. Friends and family often remarked that there wasn’t much Denny couldn’t do.
Denny had a passion for dirt track racing. He enjoyed racing all throughout the Midwest. Music was also a large part of his life. He loved playing guitar and singing, especially bluegrass and gospel music, sharing his talents with family and friends whenever he had the opportunity.
On June 5, 1993, Denny married the love of his life, Billie Jean Harris. Together they shared nearly 33 years of marriage and built a family that was the center of his life.
Denny is survived by his wife, Billie Jean Degase of Shepherd; his children, Misty Degase, Sara (Ben Spachman) Degase, Leah (Kurtis Kenny) Degase, Megan (Andrew Haynes) Degase, and Rodney “Bumpy” Anthony; and his cherished grandchildren, Kearnin Alexander, Rylee Alexander, Sara Mikkola, and Lexi Greenacre. He is also survived by his brother and sister, along with several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, John Robert Degase.
Dennis will be remembered for his hardworking nature, his love of music and racing, and the devotion he showed to his family throughout his life. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Cremation has taken place and there will be a private celebration of life at a later date.
