Harry Lyle Leonard, age 96 of St. Louis, passed away Friday, June 19, 2026 at Arbor Grove Leisure Living Community following brief hospitalization. Harry was born July 13, 1929, the son of Efford ‘Ray’ and Blanche (Crawford) Leonard and was one of sixteen children.
Harry met the love of his life, Macy Marie Salsbury, while she was working in the Hitchcock store at Pleasant Valley. He often said, “I knew I was going to marry her the first time I saw her!” True to his words, he married Macy on July 9, 1948.
As a young boy living on a farm, Harry developed a strong work ethic. As a young adult, he had a short-lived job setting up bowling pins manually at a bowling alley in Lansing. Harry worked many years thereafter, in construction as an operating engineer until he retired in 1996.
Harry faithfully attended Coe Church of Christ where he served as a deacon for many years and taught boys Sunday School class in the 1960’s.
Harry enjoyed hunting, traveling, and family get togethers. When fall arrived, it meant it was the season for hunting small game and deer. This sport also, sent him, his sons, and friends to Montana and Colorado to hunt elk and antelope. And then, to Canada with his son Bruce to hunt moose.
Traveling with his late wife Macy, they took motorcycle trips out west and road excursions to Alaska. A favorite destination in the summer months was Fletcher’s Pond to bluegill fish.
Family was very important to Harry. For many years, reunions with his siblings and their families were a late summer annual weekend event he truly enjoyed. Celebrations with his immediate family during special occasions and holidays were very dear to him.
Harry is survived by his daughter Dawn (Darryl) Quidort, sons Bruce (Barb) Leonard, Ron (Sue) Leonard, Randy (Sindia) Leonard, Derryl (Kim) Leonard, 17 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren.
Harry is preceded in death by his wife Macy, his daughter Rhonda, 9 brothers Darragh, Marion, Jay, Arden, William, Don, Jim, Stanley, and Tom Leonard, and 6 sisters Hazel Bahlke, Lillian O’Boyle, Esther Brookens, Margaret Clevenger, Marvis Marshall and Tootie Curtiss.
Services for Harry will be held at Coe Church of Christ, 10152 E. Coe Rd., St. Louis, Michigan on Wednesday, June 24, 2026 at 11 am. Viewing will take place at Coe Church on
Tuesday, June 23, 2026 at 6 pm – 8 pm and Wednesday, June 24, 2026 at 10 am-11am.
Memorials may be given to Coe Church of Christ or Rock Lake Christian Assembly. Arrangements have been entrusted to Berry Funeral Home of Shepherd.
