James “Roger” Jones; age 90 of Shepherd passed away Saturday, August 23, 2025 peacefully at his home surrounded by family. Roger was born November 9, 1934 the son of Chester and Esther (Valimont) Jones. He enjoyed goose hunting, gardening, and he was a HAM radio operator (K8JJ). He was an accomplished trap shooter. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy. Roger enjoyed finding projects outside and could fix almost anything. He had a knack for being able to make things last and work longer than they should otherwise. Roger married Lois Rothenberger April 19, 1958. He had an adventurous spirit and often took Lois along with him on trips all over North America. He was an instrument technician for Enrico Fermi, various other companies along with Dow Corning for over 25 years using the skills acquired while in the Navy. He attended Victory Church in Mt. Pleasant. Roger is survived by 4 children Patricia (Bill) Staples of Houghton, Lori (Mark) Plante of Midland, Jim (Patty) Jones of Crystal River, FL, and Terri (Scott) Jones of Allendale; 8 grandchildren Brad (Sydney) Jones, Eric (Heather) Plante, Kathryn (Jeremiah) Brooks, Deanna (Austin Callmann) Jones, Emily (Eric) Escamilla, Mackenzie (Alan Shawgo) Jones, Madeline Jones, and Chandler Jones; 11 great grandchildren; many grand golden retrievers; trusted and close friends Steve and Sharon Starks; and several nieces and nephews; Roger is preceded in death by his wife Lois; both his parents; his brother Terry Jones; and his sister-in-law Sally Jones. Services for Roger will be Friday, August 29 at 11 A.M. at Victory Church in Mt. Pleasant with visitation from 10 A.M. until time of service with Pastor Dar Blanshan officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made on behalf of Roger to DAV (Disabled American Veterans) or Floyd Elementary School. Arrangements have been entrusted to Berry Funeral Home of Shepherd.
