Janice K. “Jani” Cummings Ruyts followed her angels near and far on Wednesday, October 15, 2025 at the Isabella County Medical Care Facility with family by her side. Jani was born March 5, 1943 the daughter of Jerome and Irene (Kuzma) Cummings. She married the love of her life Reverend Frank Robert “Bob” Ruyts July 4, 1981. Their faith brought them to Central Michigan where they ministered several churches. She owned and operated Bob’s janitorial service for 40 years. It gave her great joy to shop for goodie bags all year long for her Christmas Eve celebration with her children and grandchildren. Although she could not travel much due to her church and business responsibilities, she loved visiting her brothers and sisters down state. She looked forward to her Chicago family visiting every year and her trips to Mackinaw Island with her sister to see the lilacs bloom. Jani is survived by her children Randall (Kelly) Campbell of Rosebush, Ronald (Jodi) Campbell of Mt. Pleasant, Rebakah (Thomas) Young of Saginaw, and Carole Ruyts of Homer, NY; grandchildren Anthony (Cassandra) Franco-Campbell of Mt. Pleasant, Fernando (Robert) Franco-Campbell of Mt. Pleasant, Alyssa Baker of Glendale, AZ, Ryan (Gabrielle) Schmus of Shepherd, Jason Schmus of California, Vanessa Dashiell of Freeland, Megan Upson of Casey IL, Mark Upson of New York, and Catie Waite of DeRuyter, NY; many great grandchildren; her brother John (Jean) Cummings of Hemlock; life long friends Lin Baentley and Matt and Annie Earnesty; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jani is preceded by her husband Rev. F. Robert “Bob” Ruyts; both her parents; her son David Campbell; siblings Donna (Robert “Buddy”) McDonald, Mary Lou (Lloyd “Skip”) Cunningham, Fred (Sharon) Cummings, Ed (Bea) Cummings, and Harold “Whitey” Cummings; and special niece Frances Muffoletto. Cremation has taken place and there will be a celebration of life at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Berry Funeral Home of Shepherd.
