James Nelson Steele; age 68 of Shepherd, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, April 18, 2025 surrounded by family. Jim was born October 10, 1956 the son of Deene and Nelva (Moore) Steele. He was a proud veteran of the Michigan Army National Guard and served in the 46th Military Police out of Lansing, the 1070th Maintenance, participated in reforger exercises in Germany, and was stationed in the Cuban refugee containment and riots in 1980. In his early years, Jim worked as a mechanic and later worked in the family business with Quality Fabrication. Jim took pride in being an entrepreneur and also help start Mid Michigan Home Supply. Jim is survived by 2 children James (Elizabeth) Steele of Homer and Kellie (Paul) Moore of Midland; 8 grandchildren Mercedez, Jane, Koen, Thaddeus, Cormac, Dax, Aelyth, and Jack; his sister Linda (Joe) Mogg of Mt. Pleasant; and nieces Rachel (Nathan) Mead of Jenison and Becky (Kevin) White of Lake Isabella. Jim is preceded by both his parents and his niece Tanya Sue Mogg. Services for Jim will be Tuesday, April 22 at 11 A.M. at Berry Funeral Home of Shepherd with Terry Wilson officiating. There will be visitation from 10 A.M. until time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made on behalf of Jim to the American Legion Chapter 248 out of Laingsburg.
