Mark Lynn Fairchild, age 66, of Oil City, passed away Friday, October 2, 2026, at his home surrounded by his family.
Mark was born February 10, 1960, the son of Gerald and Harriett (Bunce) Fairchild. On June 21, 1986, he married Bridget Ann Kenyon, and together they built a life centered around family, hard work, and the people they loved.
Mark was a worker to his core. He was the kind of man who always enjoyed having something to do and especially loved fixing things and working with his hands. For nearly 20 years, Mark worked at Eugene Welding in Elsie before joining the family business. He went on to spend nearly 30 years helping operate and eventually running Fairchild Family Sawmill.
When he wasn’t working, Mark enjoyed trail riding, camping, and hunting. More than anything, however, he loved his family. His grandchildren held a particularly special place in his heart, and being “Papa” was one of the greatest joys of his life.
Mark is survived by his wife of 40 years, Bridget Fairchild; his five children, Mark Fairchild Jr., David Fairchild, Charles Fairchild, Amy (Darrell) Wonsey, and Eric (Kelynn) Fairchild; eight grandchildren, Cooper, Cole, Caleb, Carter, Kaitlynn, Xander, Kashton, and Crew; his parents, Gerald and Harriett Fairchild; siblings, Karmen (Gerald) Wood and Daniel Fairchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Mark’s Life will be held Saturday, October 17, 2026, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at 5560 Short Road, Shepherd, Michigan 48883.
Memorial contributions may be made in Mark’s honor to the American Cancer Society.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Berry Funeral Home of Shepherd.
