Michael Scott Vautrin; age 62 of Shepherd passed away unexpectedly at his home Monday, September 8, 2025. Mike was born May 21, 1963 the son of Frank and Janet (Zingery) Vautrin. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and watching football. Mike was a lover of animals as house pets seemed to swarm to him no matter where he was at. He was also known for taking in stray cats as well. Mike loved being around his grandchildren and enjoyed babysitting them when they were young. He took frequent trips to the dollar store with them to spoil them. “If their love was for sale, he was buying.” Mike worked for nearly 30 years in the oil fields including 6 years in northern Siberia. Even though his work took him away from his family at times, he remained a good and loving father. After retiring from the oil fields, he enjoyed helping his father Frank farm and did so for the last 10 years. Mike is survived by his father Frank Vautrin; 4 sons Brian (Jolene Pelton) Vautrin of Shepherd, Jason Vautrin of Shepherd, Shane Vautrin of Alma, and Brent Huff of Grand Rapids; 6 grandchildren Jayla, Jordyn, Kamden, Finn, Karsen, and Wilder; 2 sisters Cindy (Robert Welters) Vautrin of Farwell and Denise Vautrin of Mt. Pleasant; and niece Shannon Vautrin of Mt. Pleasant. Mike is preceded in death by his mother Janet Hester and his aunt Barb Oswald. Cremation has taken place and there will be a memorial service on Sunday, September 14 at 2 P.M. at Berry Funeral Home in Shepherd with Reverend Bill Chu officiating. There will be visitation from noon until time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made on behalf of Mike to the Humane Animal Treatment Society (HATS).
