Raymond “Sonny” Gallaway, 85, passed away on January 23, 2026 with his family by his side at Alma Hospital. He was born on September 26, 1940, in Logansport, Indiana, to the late Raymond and Virginia Gallaway. Ray served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1969, including stints during Vietnam. After his military service, he worked for 29 years and retired from the V8 Engine Plant in Flint, Michigan. Ray was married to Margaret Gallaway for 28 years. He was a very kind man who loved people and visiting with family and friends. Above all else, he loved his two dogs, Candy and Coco. Ray was also a passionate fan of the Detroit Tigers and Lions.
Ray is survived by his children, William K. (Valerie) Gallaway, Terri (Randy) Thomas, Kenny Gallaway, and stepson Tommy Caszatt. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Misty (Justin) McCue, Mitch (Brandy) Thomas, Sarah (Austin) Quint, Paige Gallaway, Mike Gallaway, Ashley Gallaway, and Tiffany Gallaway, and Jessica (Juan) Rodriguez, as well as eight great-grandchildren. Additionally, he is survived by his brothers-in-law, Jeff (Ava) Leigh and Mike (Carolyn) Leigh.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Virginia Gallaway, his sister Sharron, his beloved wife Margaret, and his stepdaughter Julie.
Ray will be remembered for his kindness, love for his family, and his cherished dogs. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Cremation has taken place and there will be a celebration of life at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Berry Funeral Home of Shepherd.
