Thomas Edward Machuta
Thomas Edward “Tom” Machuta, age 80, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, July 31, 2026 surrounded by his family.
Tom was born on March 5, 1946, the son of John and Marion (Bowers) Machuta. He dedicated nearly 40 years of service to the City of Mount Pleasant, where he worked in the Street Department. Tom found his greatest joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved hunting and fishing, treasured every opportunity to spend time with his grandchildren and family, and looked forward each week to his cherished Sunday family dinners, which were often on his mind well before they arrived.
Tom is survived by his two sons, Russell (Ruby) Machuta and Thomas Machuta Jr.; his bonus children, Tim (Michelle) Johnson, Lee (Dorothy) Johnson, and Wayne (Jennifer) Johnson; his special grandchildren, Jimmy Latoski and Trisha Toner; his siblings, Jack Ballard, William Ballard, June Fergusan, Sandy Nolan, Jeremiah Lytle Jr., Art Lytle, Mark Lytle, Bonji Lytle, and Debra Phelps; along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, distant relatives, and many close friends.
Tom was preceded in death by his lifelong partner, Carolyn Johnson; his parents; his children, Deb Johnson, Neal Johnson, Jeff Johnson, and Pat Johnson; and his siblings, Margaret Ballard, Ben Machuta, Kenneth Machuta, and Betty Hanson.
Funeral services for Tom will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at Berry Funeral Home, with Rev. William Chu officiating. Visitation will take place from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
