Mary Carol James; age 68 of Midland passed away Monday, May 25, 2026 at her home surrounded by the love of her family. Mary was born December 8, 1957 the daughter of William and Ilene (Woodbury) Wohlscheid. She was a woman who found joy in life’s simple blessing; gardening, flowers, Detroit Tigers baseball, and especially time spent with the people she loved most.
She married the love of her life, John James, on January 9, 1998 and together they built a life centered around family. Mary treasured Sunday morning breakfasts with her siblings and remained deeply connected to those closest to her throughout her life. She was known for her caring nature and for always keeping family at the center of everything she did.
Mary Carol is survived by her husband, John; her 3 children, Nathan (Kim) James of North Carolina, Stacy (Mark) Lehmkuhle of Alma, and Robert (Ashley) James of Midland; 10 grandchildren and great grandchildren Christian, Quentin, Cooper, Cole, Emmery, Isabelle, Jaxson, Wren, Kaia, and Carter; 11 siblings LouAnn (Tim “Beaver”) Mogg, Bill (Linda) Wohlscheid, Joe Wohlscheid, Marcia (Kevin) Shattuck, Ed (Judy) Wohlscheid, Rebecca Welling, Diane Oberlander, Theresa Wohlscheid, Jackie Stanke, Catherine Fettig, and Margaret Lehnert; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by both of her parents and her sister, Sue Wing.
Mary will be remembered for the love she shared with her family, the beauty she created through her flowers and gardening, and the warmth she brought to those around her.
Services for Mary will be Thursday, May 28 at 11 A.M. at Berry Funeral Home of Shepherd with Deacon Todd Lovas officiating. There will be visitation from 10 A.M. until time of service. Interment will be at Salt River Cemetery.
