Mary Ilene Morton
Mary Ilene Morton, age 96, of Alma, passed away Sunday, October 18, 2026, at Arbor Grove Assisted Living in Alma. She was born April 4, 1930, the daughter of Fred and Vera (Brown) Rauschenberger.
Mary was a warm and social person who enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She loved reading, sewing, and cooking, and especially enjoyed the friendships and get-togethers at Nesen’s Countryside Estate. Mary was someone who appreciated good company and the opportunity to visit with those around her.
On June 30, 1950, Mary married Philip G. Morton. In her younger years, she worked at Masonic Pathways before beginning a career with Chemical Bank, where she worked for over 25 years.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Sandra (Wayne) Braun of Houghton Lake; five grandchildren, Jennifer Morton of Riverview, Florida, Allyn Morton of Riverview, Florida, Kristin (Tyler) Saxton of St. Louis, Nicholas (Melissa) Morton of Alma, and Eric (Krista) Gruett of St. Johns; seven great-grandchildren, Brynn, Brystal, Kaeleigh, Adalynn, Liam, Raegan, and Avery; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Philip Morton; her two sons, Philip “Jim” Morton and Fred Morton; an infant sister; and her siblings, Mildred Fautch, Jean Cornexl, and DL Rauschenberger.
Cremation has taken place, and a graveside service will be held Friday, October 23, 2026, at Riverside Cemetery in Alma at 1 pm, with Pastor Terry Bentley officiating.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Berry Funeral Home of Shepherd.
