Ronald Duane Smith

Ronald Duane Smith, age 87, of Shepherd, passed away Monday, October 19, 2026, at MyMichigan Medical Center in Midland, surrounded by his loving family. He was born November 5, 1938, the son of Levi and Mildred (Spencer) Smith.

Ron enjoyed camping and traveling with his family, making many wonderful memories along the way. He was a talented woodworker who especially enjoyed making wishing wells and flower baskets. Ron was a devoted family man who loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was known as a wonderful babysitter and always looked forward to taking care of his grandchildren. His family affectionately considered him the biggest kid of them all. He had a playful spirit and a special way of making time spent together fun and memorable.

On August 22, 1964, Ron married Patricia Marlene Richardson, and together they shared over 62 years of marriage. Ron was a dedicated employee of Alma Products, where he worked for over 30 years.

Ron is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Smith of Shepherd; his three children, Ronald Lee (Jane) Smith of Florida, Christy Ann (David) Sian of Midland, and Kevin (Amanda) Smith of Mt. Pleasant; seven grandchildren, Amber (Matthew) Roosa of Bay City, Tiffany Leffingwell of Midland, Cameron Sian of Midland, Caden Sian of Midland, Brittany (Jeff) Sakowski of Mt. Pleasant, Kevin Austin (Josee Griggs) Smith of Clinton, Tennessee, and Reece Smith of Mt. Pleasant; two great-grandchildren, Jayden and Kierra, with another great-grandchild on the way; his sister, Laura Hull; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Levi and Mildred Smith; and his siblings, Geraldine Strong, Henrietta Munneke, Burnett Smith, and Marion Pierce.

There will be a visitation for Ron that will take place on Sunday, October 25, 2026, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Berry Funeral Home in Shepherd.
