Merle Edward Henry Jr. “Ed”, age 71 of Winn, passed away Thursday June 12, 2025 with his family surrounding him with love and support after a very short battle with cancer. Ed was born June 5, 1954 the son of Merle and Virginia (Phelps) Henry.
Ed loved nature. He spent countless years in the woods, finding peace and joy in the stillness of the woods. He cherished his hunting trips out west and treasured the time spent fishing with his family in Manistee. He enjoyed days spent at Higgins Lake, where the water, sun, and laughter with his loved ones came together perfectly.
Ed’s love for the outdoors extended to his own yard. His garden and flowers were his pride and joy. Each bloom seemed to reflect his quiet devotion, his careful attention, and his appreciation for beauty in the simple things.
Ed had a way of making people feel special. He could strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere, and within minutes, make them feel like an old friend. He loved to tell a good story—usually with a twinkle in his eye. A man of tradition, Ed cherished family gatherings, holiday rituals, and the simple routines that gave life meaning. His warmth, generosity, and sense of humor left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. Ed loved his time spent with family, especially his time with Madden & Elaina. They held a very special place in his heart. He will be deeply missed. Ed’s way of saying goodbye was quite simple, so until we meet again, we will say “Peace Man.”
Ed is survived by his wife Lynn; 4 children Jaime Kyser-Kostal of Shepherd, Johnica (David Neil) Henry of Rodney, Kyle (Heather) Kyser of Shepherd, and Bobbie (George) Bell of Buchanan; grandchildren Paige (Brandon) Hipolite, Kiana (Jake) Goodman, Knesha (Shawn Leppen) Green, Elizabeth Neil, Shelby (Chiara) Aceto-Kyser, Max Kyser, Tustin Cyphert, Jayden (Tiffani Cowan) Cyphert, Shayla Cyphert, and Jericho Sabat; several great grandchildren; 5 siblings Lois (Joe Pat) Welch of Highlands, TX, Corinne (Ron) Anderson of Greenville, Mel (Dar) Smith of Stanton, Berle (Anne) Henry of Stanton, and Verlyn (Vicky) Henry of Morenci; best friend Mitch and Nancy Frankovich; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ed is preceded in death by both his parents; sisters Merlene Cole and Shelly Deming; son-in-law Jim Kostal; and nephew Kevin Deming.
Cremation has taken place and there will be a graveside service Saturday, August 16, 2025 at 11 A.M. at Lincoln Township Cemetery followed by a celebration of life at the Lincoln Township Hall until 3 P.M. Arrangements have been entrusted to Berry Funeral Home of Shepherd.
